About the guide

Hi, I’m SeoulAslan

I’m from Korea. I lived in Vietnam for six years and in Thailand for a year, so I know what it feels like to arrive somewhere and find that the useful information is in a language you can’t read.

I hike about twice a month. When a guide comes from my own walk, I say so. When it doesn’t, it’s based on official Korean sources.

Chart comparing five ways from Incheon Airport to Seoul in 2026: AREX all-stop train 4,750 won from Terminal 1 or 5,350 won from Terminal 2 to Seoul Station with T-money, 59 or 66 minutes; AREX Express 13,000 won, 43 or 51 minutes non-stop to Seoul Station; limousine bus 17,000 to 18,000 won to hotel areas; taxi roughly 50,000 to 75,000 won by day with the toll; night bus 17,000 to 18,000 won, leaving Terminal 1 between 23:40 and 04:50 with no bus between 02:10 and 03:40
Five ways into Seoul from Incheon Airport, adult fares. Chart: Before You Go Korea

The cheapest way from Incheon Airport to Seoul is the AREX all-stop train: 4,750 won to Seoul Station from Terminal 1 with a T-money card, 5,350 won from Terminal 2, in about an hour. The AREX Express costs 13,000 won and runs non-stop to Seoul Station in 43 minutes from T1. Limousine buses cost 17,000 to 18,000 won and stop outside hotels. A daytime taxi to central Seoul is roughly 50,000 to 75,000 won including the toll.

Before I fly anywhere, I look up five things: can I pay cash, how do the ticket machines work, will my card work, can I just tap, and where do I buy a pass. I got into that habit over about six years of living in Vietnam. Here are those answers for your first hour in Korea.

What's the cheapest way from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

The AREX all-stop train (공항철도 일반열차). It's a normal commuter train that stops at every station, and it takes a T-money card like the subway. From Terminal 1 it's about 59 minutes to Seoul Station, from Terminal 2 about 66.

Those are adult fares with a transit card. A single-journey ticket from the station machine costs a little more and adds a 500 won deposit, which you get back from a refund machine when you get off.

The catch is space. It has subway-style bench seats, so a big suitcase sits in front of you, and in the morning and evening rush you may stand.

Is the AREX Express worth 13,000 won?

It is if you're staying near Seoul Station, or you want a reserved seat and a luggage rack. The Express (직통열차) runs non-stop: T2, then T1, then Seoul Station. It does not stop at Hongdae or Gongdeok.

  • Fare: 13,000 won for adults, 9,500 won for children. Online partner sites sell it for less, around 11,400 to 11,600 won in 2026.
  • Time: 43 minutes from T1, 51 from T2.
  • Ticket: T-money doesn't work on it. Buy a ticket at the Express counter or machine in the B1 Transportation Center (교통센터), or use the QR code from an online booking.
  • Hours: the first train leaves T2 at 05:16 and the last leaves T1 at 22:48.

For Myeongdong, the Express saves little. You still change at Seoul Station, and the Express arrives on B7, deep underground. A limousine bus that stops in Myeongdong is often simpler.

Which limousine bus goes to my area?

Airport limousine buses (공항버스) leave from the arrivals floor at T1 and from the B1 Transportation Center at T2. They cost 17,000 to 18,000 won for adults. Buy your ticket before you board, at a ticket booth or a ticket kiosk. The Airport Limousine company's FAQ adds that its drivers don't take credit cards, the Climate Card or the Discover Seoul Pass.

Stop signs at T1 add a letter, such as 4A or 4B. At T2, find the route number on the signs in the B1 Transportation Center. Buses start at T2 and pick up at T1 about 20 minutes later.

  • How often: about every 10 to 45 minutes, depending on the route and the time of day.
  • Last buses: most leave T1 between about 22:25 and 23:30. Route 6701's last bus leaves T1 at 22:25, and 6009's at 23:12.
  • Luggage: two bags up to 28 inches and 20 kg each ride free on Airport Limousine buses. Each extra bag costs 8,000 won.

How much is a taxi from Incheon Airport to Seoul?

The meter starts at 4,800 won for a regular taxi and 7,000 won for a deluxe or 9-seat jumbo taxi. To central Seoul by day, expect roughly 50,000 to 75,000 won, depending on where you're going and the traffic. The meter decides, and you pay the toll on top.

  • Tolls are lower than many guides say. The Yeongjong Bridge route costs 3,200 won at the Incheon Airport tollgate (cut from 6,600 won in October 2023). The Incheon Bridge dropped from 5,500 to 2,000 won on December 18, 2025.
  • Night surcharge: +20% from 22:00 to 23:00, +40% from 23:00 to 02:00, +20% from 02:00 to 04:00 on a regular taxi.
  • No out-of-city surcharge to Seoul. The airport shares a taxi zone with Seoul, Incheon and four nearby cities, so the 20% surcharge for leaving the city doesn't apply on those trips.
  • Where to catch it: the official stands on the arrivals floor. At T1, regular taxis wait at 5C, 6C and 6D. At T2 they wait at 7C.
  • Ignore offers in the arrivals hall. The airport warns that call vans posing as taxis tout for passengers and overcharge.

Taxis take foreign Visa and Mastercard, T-money and cash. If you'd rather book in an app, Uber works with your home card, and I explain the Korean options in Can you use Uber in Korea?

The International Taxi has drivers who speak English, Japanese or Chinese and flat airport fares by zone: 70,000 to 95,000 won for a midsize car, 100,000 to 140,000 won for a large one. Book at least 24 hours ahead.

What if I land late at night?

Here are the last departures from Terminal 1. From T2, trains and buses leave a few minutes to 20 minutes earlier.

  1. 22:48 · last AREX Express to Seoul Station.
  2. 23:38 · last all-stop train that goes all the way to Seoul Station.
  3. 23:56 · the very last all-stop train, which ends at Digital Media City, one stop short of Hongik Univ.
  4. About 23:30 · the last regular limousine buses.
  5. After that · four night buses, N6000, N6002, N6701 and N6703, at 17,000 to 18,000 won. They leave T1 between 23:40 and 04:50, but none leaves T1 between 02:10 and 03:40.

Night buses need a ticket before boarding too. The ticket kiosks run 24 hours. At T1, Airport Limousine's booth No. 4 stays open all night except from 01:30 to 03:30; the T2 booth closes from midnight to 04:00. Carry some won in case the kiosk won't take your card.

Where do I buy T-money at Incheon Airport?

At the 24-hour convenience stores on the arrivals floor (1F). Terminal 1 has four CU stores there and none listed on B1, so buy the card before you go down to the trains. Terminal 2 has stores on 1F and two more on B1. A basic card is about 3,000 won. Top it up with Korean won in cash. Plain T-money top-ups don't take foreign cards.

When I photographed ticket machines at two Seoul subway stations on Sept 28 and 29, 2026, one had a printed sticker next to the card slot: "Foreign-issued credit cards and mobile payments are accepted", with Visa, Mastercard, JCB, UnionPay, WeChat Pay and Alipay+ logos. Those newer machines are on Seoul Metro Lines 1 to 8, not at the airport. They sell single tickets and Climate Card passes. They don't top up a plain T-money card.

One more trap: the Climate Card (기후동행카드), Seoul's unlimited pass, lets you get off at the Incheon Airport stations but not board there. For the ride in from the airport, use T-money or a single ticket.

Tapping your own contactless card at gates and on buses isn't possible yet. Seoul city buses are planned to start in 2027, and airport buses come later. I cover the timeline in Can you tap a contactless card on Seoul transit?

FAQ

How much is the AREX Express in 2026?

13,000 won for adults and 9,500 won for children. Online partners sell it for a bit less.

Can I use T-money on the AREX Express?

No. T-money works on the all-stop train only. The Express needs its own ticket.

Which bus goes to Myeongdong, and what does it cost?

6015 and 6001 (17,000 won) and 6701 (18,000 won). After midnight, the N6701 night bus stops at Euljiro Entrance (을지로입구).

Late arrivals are covered in our guide to getting around Seoul after midnight. Taxi surcharges are covered in our Seoul taxi fares guide.

Things I could not confirm:

  • Whether the limousine ticket booths and 24-hour kiosks take foreign cards. Official pages don't say.
  • Whether the AREX single-ticket machines at the airport stations take foreign cards. The machines with the foreign-card sticker are on Seoul Metro Lines 1 to 8.
  • Express ticket machines taking foreign cards: this comes from travellers' guides, not AREX.
  • Exact taxi fares. The 50,000 to 75,000 won range comes from 2026 travel guides and the city's meter rates, not receipts.
  • Whether the International Taxi flat fares include tolls.
  • Bus stop numbers at T2. Official pages give different numbers, so follow the route number on the signs.

Those are the five things I check before every trip. At Incheon the answers are: bring some cash, the machines speak English, cards work in taxis but not for T-money top-ups, tapping isn't here yet, and your pass is a T-money card from the convenience store.
