The text, photos and diagrams on this site are mine unless a caption credits someone else. You may quote short parts with a link back. Please don't copy whole posts or images.

The uploader tool

Hangul Week 2026 in Seoul: Gwanghwamun Light Show and Events (Oct 6–17)

Photo: Korea Tourism Organization (KOGL Type 1) Hangul Week 2026 runs from Oct 6 to 17, and the part worth planning around is in central Seoul: three days of stage shows and hands-on booths at Gwanghwamun Square (Oct 6–8), an eve concert on Thu Oct 8 at 19:00, and a light show projected on Gwanghwamun Gate every night from Oct 8 to 11, 20:00–23:00. Oct 9 is Hangul Day, a public holiday, and this year it is the 100th one. The square events are outdoors and you don't buy a ticket to walk in. I'm the kind of person who goes looking up where words come from. I once went digging into where the Korean word 바캉스 ("vacation") came from. So when the 100th Hangul Day came round, I started with the name of the day itself, and then read the Ministry of Culture's Korean announcement for everything else on this page. Seoul Palace Events in October: Foreigner Tickets (2026)

Checked Sept 29, 2026 October 2026 at Seoul's palaces, as of Sept 29. Diagram: Before You Go Korea Almost every Korean-side ticket for Seoul's autumn palace programs is sold out as of Sept 29, 2026. Foreigners still have options that Koreans don't: foreigner-only sessions of the Gyeongbokgung Starlight Tour (Oct 21 to 24, booking opens Oct 1 at 14:00 KST) and the Changdeokgung Moonlight Tour (Oct 4 and 11, listed as sold out when I checked), 300 on-site night tickets a day at Gyeongbokgung until Oct 2, and English tours of the Huwon garden with seats left. And from Oct 29 to Nov 15 , entry to all four palaces and Jongmyo is free. The most beautiful autumn leaves I ever saw were not on a mountain. They were on a maple tree inside Gyeongbokgung. I read the Korean booking pages and notices for this guide, so you can see what is still open and what is not.
