About the guide

Hi, I’m SeoulAslan

I’m from Korea. I lived in Vietnam for six years and in Thailand for a year, so I know what it feels like to arrive somewhere and find that the useful information is in a language you can’t read.

I hike about twice a month. When a guide comes from my own walk, I say so. When it doesn’t, it’s based on official Korean sources.

The Nami Island ferry runs from about 08:00 to 21:00 from Gapyeong Wharf, and the crossing takes about 5 minutes. In autumn 2026 (Sep 18 – Nov 22) the first ferry leaves at 07:30 every day, and on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the last ferry is 21:30. There is no separate ferry ticket: the 19,000 won adult admission includes the round trip.

I really dislike crowds, so I've never actually gone to see the autumn leaves at their absolute peak. Even so, I try to get out more in autumn. So before anything else I worked out which boat to take to avoid the worst of the queue, from Nami Island's own Korean and English pages, and how the separate Gapyeong Cruise is different.

What time is the first and last ferry to Nami Island?

Autumn, Sep 18 – Nov 22, 202607:30 daily21:30 Fri, Sat, Sun & holidays

There's no fixed timetable. Boats leave at intervals:

  • 08:00–09:00: every 30 minutes
  • 09:00–18:00: every 10 to 20 minutes
  • 18:00–21:00: every 30 minutes

The ride itself is about 5 minutes. Nami Island notes that hours can change depending on conditions, so open the official ferry page on the morning you go.

Do you pay separately for the Nami Island ferry?

No. Nami Island calls itself the "Naminara Republic" and calls its admission ticket a "visa". The visa price includes the ferry both ways.

The motorboat runs 09:00–18:00, leaves once at least 2 people are on board, and takes up to 5. The fee page also lists an "Early Bird" rate for tickets bought and used before 08:00, and an evening rate for tickets bought after 18:31 from April to November.

How do you get to Nami Island from Seoul by train?

One thing confuses a lot of people: the island's address is in Chuncheon, Gangwon (1 Namiseom-gil), but the ferry leaves from Gapyeong, Gyeonggi. Put Gapyeong Wharf (가평나루), 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro, into your map app, not the island.

  1. Train to Gapyeong Station (가평역). ITX-Cheongchun takes about 60 min from Yongsan or about 42 min from Cheongnyangni. The Gyeongchun Line subway takes about 50 min from Sangbong.
  2. Gapyeong Station to the wharf, 1.5 km. Bus 10-4 or a taxi takes about 5 min. Walking takes about 20 min.
  3. Get your ticket at the wharf, or online in advance on the Nami Island site, and board the ferry.

Bus 10-4 is a local Gapyeong bus that loops between Gapyeong Terminal and the Nami Island stop, passing Gapyeong Station.

Is there a direct shuttle bus from Seoul to Nami Island?

Yes. Nami Island's site lists a shuttle run by Ktourstory (book at ktourstory.com or +82-2-2038-0840):

  • To Nami: Hongik Univ. Station Exit 4 at 09:00 → Myeongdong 09:40 → Dongdaemun 09:50 → Nami Island 11:30
  • Back: Nami Island 16:30 → Dongdaemun 18:00 → Myeongdong 18:10 → Hongdae 18:50

Pets can't ride the shuttle. It arrives at 11:30, so it doesn't work if you're aiming for the early ferry.

Can you drive and park at Gapyeong Wharf?

  • Small car 6,000 won, large vehicle 10,000 won for the first 12 hours
  • After 12 hours: 1,000 won per extra hour
  • Card payment only. Paying through Kakao Mobility costs 5,500 won (small) or 6,000 won (large)

What is the Gapyeong Cruise, and is it the same as the Nami ferry?

No, it's a completely different boat. The Nami ferry is the 5-minute crossing from Gapyeong Wharf. Gapyeong Cruise (가평크루즈) is a 436-ton electric tour boat that leaves from Gapyeong Marina (가평마리나) in Seorak-myeon, a different part of Gapyeong. It carries up to 250 people on three decks.

Things foreigners should know:

  • Bring your passport. Every passenger fills in a boarding report, and foreigners show a passport.
  • Arrive 30 minutes early for the paperwork. Boarding closes 10 minutes before departure.
  • Booking is online, in Korean: the official site links to Naver Booking, Coupang, 11st and Yeogi. Without a booking you may not get the time you want.
  • Refunds: none for same-day cancellations. Cancel by 17:00 the day before for a full refund.
  • Pets up to 15 kg can come in a carrier. Outside food isn't allowed on board.
  • Getting there: bus 7001 from Jamsil Station to HJ Global Art Center (HJ글로벌아트센터), then a 7-minute walk.

How do you avoid the crowds at Nami Island in autumn?

Korean searches for "Nami Island ferry times" (남이섬 배시간표) run about 2,640 a month and rose 56% over the last two weeks. Last year they peaked around Saturday, Nov 8 (Naver search data, my count on Oct 6, 2026). The numbers that help you dodge the queue:

  1. Take the 07:30 autumn first ferry. Tickets bought and used before 08:00 fall under the Early Bird rate.
  2. Go on a Friday to Sunday evening. The last ferry is 21:30 then, so you can stay after dark.
  3. If you drive, arrive early. The base parking fee covers 12 hours.
